RESUMO
The role of renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system in cardiac remodelling was studied in isoproterenol-induced cardiac hypertrophy in rats. The effects of captopril and spironolactone were compared. Isoproterenol treatment increased ventricular to body weight ratio (4.6 vs 3.7) and collagen area (22.6 vs 8.2%), and reduced systolic (89.93 vs 107.5 mm Hg) and diastolic (59.6 vs 70.8 mm Hg) pressure. In these animals, captopril decreased systolic (67.4 mm Hg) and diastolic pressure (31.9 mm Hg), whereas spironolactone regressed systolic pressure to control values (101.2 mm Hg). Captopril and spironolactone prevented cardiac hypertrophy (4.01 and 3.95). However, only spironolactone prevented myocardial fibrosis (11.3%).

Con el fin de observar las posibles alteraciones regionales de la expresión de receptores opioides mu en el cerebro de la rata que pudieran acontecer a lo largo del ciclo estral, se ha realizado un estudio inmunocitoquímico que ha demostrado la existencia de un incremento significativo del número de células nerviosas que expresan el receptor en la fase de proestro (a las 15.00 h), con respecto al estro, en el área preóptica medial del hipotálamo y la corteza piriforme. Estos resultados concuerdan con estudios previos en los que se ha demostrado que la expresión del receptor opioide mu en el prosencéfalo de la rata puede ser alterada por los esteroides gonadales (AU)

Lithium can potentiate the effects of antidepressant drugs and alters morphine analgesia and phosphoinositide turnover. Analysis of mu-opioid receptor immunostaining after chronic lithium administration in rats revealed an increase in the density of cells expressing mu-opioid receptors in the caudatus-putamen, the dentate gyrus, the lateral septum and the frontal, parietal and piriform cortices. These data suggest that mu-opioid receptor expression in the rat forebrain is altered by in vivo chronic lithium treatment. This could be a compensatory mechanism, induced in part by the effects of lithium on mu-opioid receptor transduction mechanism.

Complete information concerning possible alterations in nitric oxide production in the rat brainstem trigeminal system after peripheral nerve lesion is still lacking. This being the case, density of NADPH-diaphorase positive neurons in the trigeminal mesencephalic nucleus after experimental infraorbital nerve transection was studied. In the lesioned side, an ipsilateral increase in NADPH-d positive neurons was found at postoperative days 4 and 6 with respect to contralateral, without changes after a 2 months period. These data suggest that nitric oxide could be involved in regeneration of afferent fibers concerned with the periodontal receptors of maxillary teeth.
